Snyder Than You

Why I am, who I think, maybe how I'm at, sometimes when, and possibly a vague what.

I found what he’s referring to:

Leviticus 19:27-28: Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. (King James Version) =)

Or, slightly updated:

Do not trim off the hair on your temples or trim your beards. Do not cut your bodies for the dead, and do not mark your skin with tattoos. I am the Lord. (New Living Translation)

Is this talking about sideburns? That seems more likely than “haircuts” in general. It also says,

Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar, “Do not let your hair become unkempt, and do not tear your clothes, or you will die and the LORD will be angry with the whole community. But your relatives, all the house of Israel, may mourn for those the LORD has destroyed by fire. (Leviticus 10:6, New International Version)

That only says to comb your hair… and he’s specifically talking to priests.

I think a better sign would have said, “No tattoos” per Leviticus 19:28. Even there, Young’s Literal (and fairly unreadable) Translation says, “a writing, a cross-mark” where others translate “tattoo.”

Which would still (and more correctly) make his point. I know several Christians who have tattoos and still get tattoos.
