Lucia →
I met a Chinese woman on the first day of Houseparty, who I’ll call Lucia. (Her English name means the same thing as Lucia – light – and I hope that’s auspicious!) She’s here in the US for a year of…

agirlcalledchris:
“Since the publication of my first book “The End of Faith,” thousands of people have written to tell me I am wrong not to believe in God. The most hostile of these communications have come from Christians. This is ironic as Christians generally imagine that no faith imparts the virtues of love and forgiveness more effectively than their own. The truth is that many who claim to...

from silence to noise! →
I’ve been silent on the blog for awhile now. And it’s been pretty quiet out at camp as well – six weeks of no campers. Daniel has been doing budget stuff and basic maintenance, neither of which…

“I think God is kind of like Santa Claus for adults. Otherwise, God is kind of a jerk, isn’t he? I mean, he makes me gay and then he has his followers going around telling me it’s something that I chose. As if someone would choose to be mocked every single day of their life… You can’t prove there isn’t a magic teapot floating around the dark side of the moon with a dwarf inside of...

I Have This Uncontrollable Reflex...
bestrooftalkever:
…that occurs when someone starts a statement with: “I don’t want to make any racial stereotypes…”
Out of my mouth flies, “uh-oh.”
I don’t want to make any racial stereotypes, but I’ll bet that the great majority of such statements are made by Caucasian American males.
Case in point.

Affluenza
A documentary movie entitled “Affluenza” in 1997 is an innovative film that diagnoses a serious social disease. It is caused by commercialism, consumerism, and rampant materialism that are having a…
Blah. It’s all just a bunch of liberal socialist hogwash propaganda.
Good enough for me!

In other words: You’re doing it wrong. All of you.
Now my question is this: Why doesn’t Mental Floss have a “Share on Tumblr” button? They have a tumblog of their own!

What do you believe? →
Not fond of the “Belief-o-matic” name, but whatever.
I’d be interested to see what usgroovykids gets. And you, too.
I’m somehow either Seventh Day Adventist (100%? How?) or Orthodox Quaker. Maybe Eastern Orthodox. I’m not sure I agree with that, although I kinda like the Orthodox Quaker designation. I thought I’d be one of these guys.

“The show went on sale at noon on Saturday, December 10th. 12 hours later, we had over 50,000 purchases and had earned $250,000, breaking even on the cost of production and website. As of Today, we’ve sold over 110,000 copies for a total of over $500,000. Minus some money for PayPal charges etc, I have a profit around $200,000 (after taxes $75.58). This is less than I would have been...

If Christians want to keep the Christ in Christmas, then do something real about it.
usgroovykids asked: First of all, I never said anywhere in my ask that atheism is perfect in anyway I simply made a criticism of Christian dogma. It's not about blaming Christians for the problems their faith has caused in this world, it's about blaming the religion itself. Obviously if it weren't for this faith a lot of things wouldn't happen, it would be foolish for me to blame the adherents,...

usgroovykids asked: This is in response to a Dec 3 response you made to a Stephen Fry quote I posted: First of all about the grammatical errors, I typed it, but it wasn't like Stephen Fry wrote it, I was watching a youtube vid and he was saying it and I just typed it fast and then posted it. And secondly I now must ask the question: Is it truly a noble thing to adhere to a faith which has caused so much...

This puzzle has been attributed both to Lewis Carroll and to Albert Einstein:
There are five houses in a row. Each of the houses is painted a different color, and their occupants come from different countries, own different pets, drink different beverages, and smoke different cigarette brands.
The Englishman lives in the red house.
The Spaniard owns the dog.
